TOCCOA - After arriving on the scene of house fire Tuesday night, Toccoa firefighters made an unexpected discovery - a male victim lying in the edge of the woods behind the home.
Capt. Mike Coleman of Toccoa Fire Department explained.
"We were dispatched to a structure fire, fully involved," Coleman said. "Upon arrival, we had heavy fire coming from the front side of the house as well as it had started progressing through the rest of the house. We did find a victim on the outside of the structure. He had no visible burns on him that we could see."
The victim was taken by ambulance to the emergency room at Stephens County Hospital. Details of his condition are not available.
Coleman said the cause of the fire, located on Almond Street off West Currahee Street, remains under investigation. A Toccoa Fire Department investigator was expected on scene Tuesday night.
