North Georgia area to benefit from Georgia’s SIWDG
CLARKESVILLE - Beginning with the Fall Semester 2013, North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) students who are receiving the HOPE Grant may also be eligible for additional financial assistance from Georgia’s Strategic Industries Workforce Development Grant (SIWDG) Award for the Practical Nursing programs. The Practical Nursing program is offered on both the Blairsville and Currahee Campuses of NGTC.
Also included in the grant is the Early Childhood Care/Education program which is currently being developed at NGTC with the goal of accepting students beginning the January, 2014 for the Spring semester.
To qualify for funds from the SIWDG, a student must be fully admitted to the college, enrolled in one of the above programs and receiving the HOPE Grant for the same term.
The amount of the SIWDG Award is a fixed amount for each term of enrollment. For students in the Practical Nursing and Early Childhood Development/Education Program, the amounts are $500 for enrolled credits of nine or more hours or $250 for eight or less hours.
The HOPE GED Grant, HOPE Grant, and SIWDG Award may awarded in the same term, if all other eligibility requirements are met, up to the cost of attendance. High school students in dual enrollment programs are not eligible for the SIWDG Award.
Though the Commercial Truck Driving program (CTD) is included in the SIWDG, at the current time the program is a non-credit offering at NGTC and is therefore not eligible for HOPE grant funds. However, for students wishing to enroll in the CTD program, funds may be available through the Workforce in Action (WIA) program which offers scholarships for eligible students. For more information on the WIA, visit http://www.dol.state.ga.us/js/wia_ita_providers.htm or contact the NGTC Financial Aid department at 706-754-7726.
