Forsyth County warns of potential phone scam
By Derreck Booth Editor
CUMMING - The Forsyth County Water and Sewer Department is warning its customers about some potentially fraudulent phone calls.
Authorities said customers have gotten a couple of evening calls from someone claiming to be with the department. They demanded credit card payment over the phone.
County spokeswoman Jodi Gardner said the department does make calls, but there are two things to remember.
"We will accept credit card payment over the telephone, but payment will never be demanded over the telephone, and we do not call our customers for billing matters in the evening," Gardner said.
She said customers should never provide personal information such as their account number over the telephone.
Forsyth County officials urge anyone who gets a potential fraud call to contact the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office immediately at (770) 781-3087.
Customers who have any questions regarding their water and sewer account can call the Forsyth County Water and Sewer Department main line at (770) 781-2160.
