Northeast Georgia's unemployment rate declines to 7.0 percent in April

Metro Gainesville’s unemployment rate increased to 6.9 percent in April, up one-tenth of a percentage point from 6.8 percent in March. The rate was 7.2 percent in April a year ago.
ATLANTA – The Georgia Department of Labor announced today that the unemployment rate in the Northeast Georgia region declined to 7.0 percent in April, down four-tenths of a percentage point from 7.4 percent in March. The rate was 8.0 percent in April a year ago.

The rate declined because the number of unemployed people decreased by 1,115 to 20,732, down from 21,847 in March. The number of unemployed people was down by 2,739 from 23,471 in April 2012.

Metro Gainesville’s unemployment rate increased to 6.9 percent in April, up one-tenth of a percentage point from 6.8 percent in March. The rate was 7.2 percent in April a year ago.

Metro Athens had the lowest area jobless rate at 5.6 percent, while the Heart of Georgia-Altamaha region had the highest at 10.3 percent.

Meanwhile, Georgia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April was 8.2 percent, down from 8.4 percent in March. The rate was 9.1 percent in April a year ago.
