DEMOREST - As are most others across the nation, students and faculty in Habersham County schools are coping with the deadly tornadoes in Oklahoma.

To help its school community cope, the Fairview Elementary Student Council held a brief, voluntary time of prayer in the atrium before school began Wednesday.

But in addition to prayers, students, faculty, and parents have an opportunity to help in a more tangible way.

Marie Taylor of the Habersham County Sheriff's Office is collected new toys and new stuffed animals to be sent to the children who were victims of the Oklahoma tornadoes.

"Students or staff may bring them to any Habersham County School, and they will be picked up on Thursday, May 30, to be sent to the children," said Habersham County Schools Social Worker Kathleen Clement in an email.

The postage is being paid for by the law enforcement agencies in the county.

"We want to send some comfort to those poor little ones out there," Taylor said.

For more information, contact Taylor at (706) 754-6666.
