Report lists CHS, EHHS, WHHS, GHS, JHS among best in country

UNDATED - Five high schools in Gainesville and Hall County are among the best in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report.

They are: Chestatee, East Hall, West Hall, Gainesville and Johnson. All are also among the top 47 high schools in Georgia, receiving silver medals for their showing nationwide. Peachtree Ridge in Suwanee and Buford High also were awarded silver medals.

The Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology in Lawrenceville was the highest ranked of any Georgia public high school - placing first in the state and third in the nation. It trailed only BASIS Tuscon in Arizona (#2) and School for the Talented and Gifted in Dallas, Tex. (#1).

The Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology also was named the second highest ranking charter school in the country. Norcross High School, Duluth High School and Parkview High School, all based in Gwinnett County, were ranked in the top ten schools in the state on the 2013 report.

In addition, bronze medals were awarded to the following high schools in north Georgia: Banks County, Elbert County, Rabun County and Union County.

The publication ranked more than 21,000 public high schools in 49 states and the District of Columbia. Schools were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on state proficiency standards and how well they prepare students for college.
