Reece Center to reopen April 4

BLAIRSVILLE - The Byron Herbert Reece Farm and Heritage Center will reopen for public visitation on Thursday, April 4. The Center will remain open through November on Thursdays through Saturdays from 10:00 to 5:00 and on Sundays from 1:00 to 5:00. Group visitations on the other weekdays can be accommodated through prior arrangement.

Some improvements to the venue have been made in recent months. These include new picnic tables for the pavilion, additional landscaping, and enhancement of both agricultural and literary exhibits in the barns.

The Reece Farm and Heritage Center is located about nine miles south of Blairsville on U.S. Highway 129, approximately one mile north of Vogel State Park.

Reece, Georgia's Appalachian Poet/Novelist, was born near Blairsville in 1917 but died 41 years later in in Young Harris in 1958, his life cut short by "illness and suicide," according to the Byron Herbert Reece Society website. During his lifetime, he produced five volumes of verse and two novels.
