Tennis: Lumpkin County girls edge past Chestatee, 3-2

DAHLONEGA -- The Lumpkin County girls tennis team edged past Chestatee 3-2 in Dahlonega on Thursday night.

The match was decided in a third set tiebreak in the No. 1 doubles match, as Lumpkins’ Charlotte Gaston and Ansley Travis outlasted the Lady War Eagles’ Haley King and Grace Brown, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5).

Lumpkin County also won the No. 1 and No. 3 singles matches, as Brittany Stewart topped Lily Kiang and Claudia Head defeated Tyler Bennett.

Chestatee’s Fernanda Arcaraz won at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-0 over Lumpkin County’s Anna Claire Norton. The Lady War Eagles’ No. 2 doubles team of Lauren McNitt and Carolina Gijon defeated The Lady Indians’ Courtney Fortner and Kayla Smith 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 in a pro-set tiebreak.
