GAINESVILLE - Hall County School officials Thursday launched a new School Safety Center website, that serves as an information source when it comes to safety.

Spokesman Gordon Higgins said Sgt Earl Roach, Coordinator of Safety and Emergency Preparedness for the system worked on content development.

The site is a clearing house of information on school safety efforts, ranging from severe weather to protocol and contacts.

Higgins said the site also includes a tipline.

"We want the public to know that this information and tipline is there for their use to alert us whenever they think that there's a potential for a threat," Higgins said.

In instances of school emergencies, Higgins said it'll give people updated information.

"It would also give them real time reports in cases of a school emergency situation, such as the one we had at Flowery Branch, so they can go on the Internet and get real-time reports about what's going on there right now."

Last month, a student at Flowery Branch High School posted posted a phony threat on a social media website.
