GAINESVILLE - William Morris of Gainesville High School and Austin Montgomery of Lakeview Academy were named as co-recipients of the District STAR Student Award at the Region 2 Award Banquet in Jasper Tuesday night.
Both will go on to state competition in Atlanta on April 29. Morris and Montgomery both represent the city of Gainesville schools and are sponsored by the Gainesville Kiwanis Club. Pam Michelsen, English teacher at Gainesville High School, and Matthew Gruhn, History teacher and coach at Lakeview Academy, are their STAR Teachers.
The event honored the STAR Students and Teachers from the ten school districts in Region 2.
Recognitions included Savannah Schneider, West Hall High School, winner from Hall County Schools and her STAR Teacher, Andrew McCain; Spencer Roper from Dawson County, with his STAR Teacher; Michael Williams, Sterling Ferris from Lumpkin County, with teacher Don Brock; Patrick Morgan from White County Schools, teacher Dustin Keener; and Youngjun Yi, Tallulah Falls School, Habersham County Schools winner, with teacher Terri Bogan.
