Lady Saints softball standouts Dickie, McMillan honored by PBC
University of North Georgia softball players Melissa Dickie and Kim McMillan have earned weekly awards from the Peach Belt Conference office. Dickie was named the conference's Pitcher of the Week while McMillan was named the Player of the Week.
Dickie, a sophomore from Buford, pitched a team-high 20 innings last the week, allowing eight hits and one earned run for a 0.35 earned run average as she went 3-0 in her three appearances. For the week she struck out 10 batters while moving into the PBC’s top-10 in ERA (1.78), opponent batting average (.192) and shutouts (one).
In the Saints' first game of the week, she tossed a six-inning no-hitter against Belmont Abbey College in an 8-0 win, striking out two. She followed that with a complete-game win over the University of South Carolina Aiken, allowing three hits and two runs (one earned) before also going the distance against Lander University while allowing five hits and an unearned run.
A sophomore transfer, McMillan collected hits in all six games for the Saints with a .562 batting average to go with four doubles, one home run and nine RBIs. She collected at least one hit in every game, going 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs in game-two against Belmont Abbey.
In the Saints' four conference games, she hit .500 with three doubles and four RBIs. McMillan also drew five walks on the week for a .667 on-base percentage to go with her 1.000 slugging percentage. She scored eight runs and started every game at catcher without an error in 26 chances.
McMillan is currently second in the PBC in batting average (.432) and leads the conference with an .895 slugging percentage. She is also ranked second in home runs (11) and RBIs (30).
