Daryl White, now Freshman Academy principal at Gainesville High School, takes the principal's post at Woods Mill next school year
GAINESVILLE - The new school year in Gainesville brings a new principal for Woods Mill Academy; the announcement came at Monday night's Gainesville School Board meeting.
Superintendent Merrianne Dyer said Daryl White, now Freshman Academy principal at Gainesville High School, takes the principal's post at Woods Mill next school year.
“It’s really on the cutting edge of education as a blended learning school,” White said. “Woods Mill Academy, Woods Mill High School in particular, is an example being used throughout the nation.”
White said he’ll actually be over three programs as he begins to get ready for his job as campus principal this summer.
“There is Woods Mill High School, and next year will be Woods Mill Middle School, we will have a six-eight and nine-12 program,” White said. “There’s also an alternative education program as well.”
White has spent eight of his 19 years as an educator in the Gainesville School System.
NEW FAIR STREET OPENING NOW SET FOR EARLY FALL
Dr. Dyer said the New Fair Street School is now on the calendar for an early fall opening, the second week in October. Dr. Dyer had hoped the school might be ready to open when the new school year starts in August.
"We don't want to rush the opening," Dr. Dyer said. "We want it to be settled, and we want it to be perfect when the students and teachers return."
She added that the Board should know more about an exact opening day in about a month when flooring in complete, but work continues ahead of schedule.
