ATLANTA - Officials Monday announced that Gwinnett County Schools will represent Georgia in the National Green Ribbon School District program.

The national program will allow the Gwinnett system to compete for awards up to $10,000 pledged by the Turner Foundation for demonstrating energy efficiency efforts.

While not getting the top nod, Stephens County Schools were named an honorable mention district. On the individual school level, Rabun County Elementary School was named an honorable mention.

The effort is a partnership between the Georgia Department of Education, Lt. Governor Casey Cagle, the U.S. Green Building Council of Georgia, Georgia EPD, the Clean Air Campaign and the Turner Foundation.
