WATKINSVILLE -- The Gainesville girls track team came out on top on Saturday in the Barberitos Invitational meet at Oconee County High in Watkinsville.

The Lady Red Elephants beat out 10 other teams and were led by junior co-captain Sara Hayes, who won three medals and placed in five events.

Hayes claimed gold in the 800 meters, silver on the 4x400 relay team, and bronze in the 300 meter hurdles, where she once again broke the school record with a time of 49.19 seconds. She also placed fourth in the 4x100 relay and fourth in high jump.

Stasha Hopkins also got into the Gainesville High record books by breaking the school mark in the shot-put with a gold medal-winning throw of 35-foot-5, shattering the old school record of 34-3. Stasha also took home a silver medal in the discus with a throw of 89-6.

Other medal winners included Kabree Randolph -- second in the long jump, 16-0, and 4x400 team -- Denisha Lyles -- third in the triple jump -- and Mia Buffington and Happi Sims in the 4x400. Alexis Smith also took third in the pole vault.

Other contributors included Kacie Wimpye (seventh in the 300 hurdles), Ontreal Harris (eighth, triple jump and sixth 100 meters) and Lyndi Ellison (sixth, discus).
