Basketball: Flowery Branch boys coach Mullis resignsBy Morgan Lee Editor FLOWERY BRANCH -- Flowery Branch High School announced on Monday that boys basketball coach Duke Mullis has resigned his position with the Falcons.
Mullis has been with Flowery Branch since 2009, leading the Falcons to the state playoffs that season. Flowery Branch has not made the GHSA playoffs since and finished 9-17 this season. Mullis joined the Falcons from West Forsyth; he built Chattahoochee into a state title contender before that, going to the GHSA playoffs six times between 2001-07, including two quarterfinal appearances. "Right now he's staying on to teach, but we're going to miss him," Flowery Branch athletic director Shannon Benton said. "He's one of the best coaches I've been around in 25 years. He's a great teacher and his knowledge of the game and the Xs and Os is on a level like no other coach I've known. He's always prepared our kids well, and his attention to detail has always impressed me." Benton added that he hopes to name a new coach soon. "I'm sure we will have interest from a lot of coaches," Benton said. "And we hope to make a speedy transition." © Copyright 2013 AccessNorthGa.com
