MT. AIRY – School personnel from across the area are invited to attend School Attacker Response, presented by Cornelia Police Department, from 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 18, at the Habersham Ninth Grade Academy in Mt. Airy.

Rob Pincus, owner of the I.C.E. Training Company and renowned instructor and author in the personal defense training community, travels throughout the U.S. teaching civilian, law enforcement, and military personnel in self-defense disciplines.

“This seminar is being offered for free by Rob in order to give school employees and staff practical alternatives to the ‘Hide and Hope’ strategies that are commonly being provided nationwide,” said Lt. Jonathan Roberts of Cornelia P.D.

Topics will include an overview of typical school attacks, escape and evasion, barricading, improvised defensive tools, empowering others to act, unarmed defense, and group defense response.

“We in law enforcement have been inundated with law enforcement response training to these types of incidents, but very little is being done to provide information and training to those on the front lines – our teachers and faculty,” Roberts said.

“Cornelia Police Department is pleased to have the full support of the Habersham County Board of Education and the superintendent’s office in order to bring this training to Habersham and the surrounding schools’ employees so that we can all be on the same page in how to deal with these types of incidents,” Roberts said.

The course is for school system employees only and a valid photo identification from the respective school system is needed for entry into the class.

There is no registration requirement, but participants are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes early.

The Habersham Ninth Grade Academy is located at 171 Raider Circle, Mt. Airy, just off Georgia Highway 365 at Old Highway 197.
