GAINESVILLE - A citizens group feels it is off to a "strong start" in seeking a master plan for a south Gainesville neighborhood.

About 20 people attended a recent meeting of Concerned Citizens of Gainesville & Hall County to discuss a strategy for future growth in the an area focusing on "Athens Street to U.S. 129 South, including Floyd Road residential areas and Gaines Mill Road."

Spokeswoman Michelle Lowe Mintz says "We will actively seek input from people who are interested in the revitalization of the community this month by asking them to define overall boundaries and neighborhoods. Then we'll present information gathered to city and county officials."

Mintz added "We've been in discussions for a while about master planning with City Council Member Myrtle Figueras, Hall County Commissioner Jeff Stowe and (county commission) Chairman Richard Mecum. Hall County Administrator Randy Knighton has met with us and a Planning Department staff member, Chris Chavis, was (at the latest meeting.)"

"...we're so excited about this opportunity for residents to come together and share their dreams for the future," Mintz said. "We want our grandchildren and great grandchildren to be proud of this community."
