DAHLONEGA -– The North Georgia men's and women's tennis teams dropped a pair of Peach Belt Conference matches to Georgia College by identical 7-2 scores Friday at the North Georgia Tennis Complex.
The 18th-ranked Bobcat men (10-3, 4-2 PBC) took an early 2-1 lead over the No. 30 Saint men (4-6, 1-6 PBC) in doubles action with Felipe Friedrich and Matheus Guida claiming No. 1 doubles over Johan Wadstein and Yannick Hass 8-2.
Friedrich then claimed a 6-4, 6-3 win over Wadstein at No. 1 singles. Wadstein entered the 2013 season ranked #47 in the nation.
Georgia College's women (6-7, 3-4 PBC), also ranked 18th in NCAA Division II and fourth in the Southeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, swept the doubles portion of the match over the North Georgia women (2-9, 1-7 PBC) before sophomore Cameron Williams and senior Jordan Poole claimed victories in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 6 singles. Williams defeated Ivana Marevic 6-1, 6-3 while Poole defeated Sarah Murray 6-0, 6-1.
Both North Georgia squads will next hit the road for a four-match, Spring Break road swing. The Saint men and women will first travel to Salisbury, N.C. where they will take on Lees-McRae on Sunday, Mar. 17 at 11:00 a.m.
