ATLANTA – Three resurfacing projects in northeast Georgia are among 20 infrastructure improvement projects announced Monday by the Georgia Department of Transportation.
State Route (SR) 172 from the Madison-Elbert county line through Elbert and into Hart County to SR 8 in Hartwell will be resurfaced and two-foot paved shoulders added to the roadway. This 17.3-mile project was awarded to E.R. Snell Contracting, Inc of Snellville for $3.2 million and is to be completed by January 31, 2014.
State Route 51 from the Banks-Franklin county line, extending west of SR 59 will be resurfaced and two-foot paved shoulders added. The 4.9-mile long project was awarded to Colditz Trucking Inc. of Blairsville for $1.1 million and is to be completed by January 31, 2014.
State Route 98 from SR 334 in Jackson County to Washington Street in Commerce will be resurfaced. The work will be done by Pittman Construction Company of Conyers for $599,845. The 1.6-mile project is to be completed by January 31, 2014.
In addition, awarding of a contract for 3.23 miles of widening and other work on SR 17/SR 17 Alternate in Stephens County from near Scott Road to Memorial Drive was deferred. This project is to also include the construction of two bridges.
According to the GDOT website, bid awards can be deferred for any number of reasons, including budgetary constraints, environmental permitting delays, and making sure the apparent low bidder gets properly pre-qualified.
