LULA - Fire destroyed an approximately 3,000 square foot structure in the Lula area Monday afternoon.

According to Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell, firefighters got the call around 1:00 p.m. to the 7700 block of Persimmon Tree Road. The call was for a report of smoke in the area.

When firefighters arrived, they found the building fully involved in flames and already on the ground.

According to Kimbrell, an investigator is looking for the cause.

He said the building was a barn-type venue on a large acreage farm that was sometimes rented and used for weddings and public events.

Kimbrell said his department does not release names of private property owners in fire incidents, although an address search shows the facility belonged to Hall County businessman Jim Walters.

White County provided mutual aid for water.
