MACON -- Katie Frerking scored 28 points to lead Wesleyan to a 76-43 win over previously undefeated Laney on Friday in the GHSA Class AA girls state championship game at the Macon Coliseum.

Wesleyan (28-4) tied a state record with its sixth consecutive state championship, equaling the Hart County girls' championship run from 1989-1994. The state title was the 10th overall for the Wolves, and those championships have all come in the past 12 years.

Khadijah Cave, who has signed with Baylor, scored 10 points and had 12 rebounds for Laney (30-1) before fouling out in the fourth quarter.

The game was tied at 25 in the closing minute of the second quarter, but the Wolves scored the next 11 points and outscored Laney 51-18 the rest of the way.

Wesleyan's pressure defense wore the Wildcats down, resulting in 32 points off turnovers and 24 fast-break points.
