GAINESVILLE -- The Chestatee girls soccer team overcame a sluggish start to shut out Eastside 3-0 on Friday in Gainesville.
Despite 10th-ranked Chestatee’s dominance in shots, the Lady War Eagle offense had trouble finding the back of the net, with several attempts bouncing off the post. A stubborn Eastside defense also stymied the Lady War Eagles until Alexis Rebollar finished off a pass from Mary Ashley Easterwood midway through the first half for a 1-0 lead.
Eastside began to push forward in the second half, but the Chestatee defense held on and the Lady War Eagles offense kicked in late.
Hope Baxter finished off a corner kick delivered by Rebollar to secure the game at 2-0, while Rebollar added the third goal with 4:26 left to play.
Melanie Smith notched the shutout in goal and Bailey Hooper was instrumental in helping the defense from her sweeper position.
Chestaee will play West Hall at 5 p.m. Saturday for third place in the Northeast Georgia Mountains Cup at Chestatee High in Gainesville.
