ATHENS - The 22-year-old Cartersville man accused in an Athens hit-and-run accident that left a young woman in a coma has been granted bond in the case.

William Wilson Heaton is accused of striking 19-year-old Emily Bowman with his truck as she walked along Oak Street in Athens in the early morning hours of February 16.

Bowman, who is from Woodstock, had gone to Athens to celebrate a friend's birthday.

Under the conditions of Heaton's bond, he must wear a GPS monitor, surrender his driver's license and be subject to drug and alcohol tests.

Heaton turned himself in to authorities Wednesday night.
