Tennis: Lady War Eagles push past Stephens County

The Chestatee girls tennis team improved to 1-1 in subregion 8A-AAAA with a narrow 3-2 victory over Stephens County on Thursday night.

The Lady War Eagles swept the doubles matches, as Haley King and Grace Brown narrowly defeated the Lady Indians’ Emily Smith and Sydney Caudell 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 at No. 1 while Chestatee’s Carolina Gijon and Lauren McNitt defeated Katie Akridge and Carley Payne 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 2 match.

The Lady War Eagles’ Fernanda Arcaraz won at No. 2 singles over Brittan Stancil 6-2, 7-6. Stephens County won the No. 1 and No. 3 singles points as Kailin Huelsman topped Lily Kiang 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 and the Lady Indian’s Sarah Whitworth beat Chestatee’s Tyler Bennett 6-1, 6-1.
