Basketball: Region 8-AAAA honors headed by area standouts

Johnson boys swept the player and coach of the year honors, while Chestatee's Maegan Kenimer was named Region 8-AAAA girls co-Player of the Year this week.

The senior helped lead the Lady War Eagles to a Lanierland title and a second round state playoff finish this season.

Meanwhile, Johnson's Montrell McKenzie was named the boys player of the year and Jeff Steele the coach of the year. The Knights won Region 8-AAAA and reached the first round of the state playoffs.
