MT. AIRY – Mt. Airy officials are urging the town’s water customers to boil their water.

A leaking galvanized service line was located about 3:20 p.m. on Dicks Hill Parkway near Jud Pitts Road, in the area of Ivy Mountain Distillery.

“The bank had already caved off” by the time the leak was discovered, said Police Chief/Administrative Officer Corey Allen.

Because the old line runs off a six-inch high-pressure line, Allen said town officials are encouraging the boil water measure for 48 hours as a precaution.

“We’d rather be safe,” Allen said.

This is the town’s second boil water advisory in a week’s time. The first came when a water main on Grandview Avenue broke.

For more information, water customers can call Mt. Airy Town Hall at (706) 778-6990.
