Several inches of snow cover the ground in parts of north Georgia. It's the second time in less than a week that snow has accumulated in mountain regions and this time there was a dusting as far south as Gainesville.
Strong winds were blamed for a number of downed trees across north Georgia overnight and Wednesday morning, including some in Jackson, White and Cherokee counties and in several parts of metro Atlanta. Those winds, expected to continue all day Wednesday, were producing wind chills in the teens in the early morning hours.
The state Department of Transportation and the National Weather Service are warning that there is a potential for icy roads in parts of north Georgia overnight Wednesday.
See separate story for school closings and cancellations.
