Fundraisers not affiliated with GPDBy Derreck Booth Editor GAINESVILLE - Gainesville Police issued an advisory Friday afternoon, urging citizens to be aware of people claiming to be with the department soliciting through phone calls and door to door visits.
According to the department, they're identifying themselves as members of the police department and/or representatives of the Fraternal Order of Police. According to Corporal Joe Britte, the individuals do not work for the department. He also said the office is not associated with any fund raising efforts by the fraternal order. If the department is seeking to fund a project, Britte said officers will be in uniform or official department attire. They'll also readily show a badge or identification. Officers encouraged anyone with questions on the legitimacy of a solicitation by people claiming to be with Gainesville Police to contact the department. Britte said The Fraternal Order of Police, Gainesville Hall Co Lodge 41 will answer any questions regarding phone or door to door solicitation in the area.
