JEFFERSON – A manhunt for an armed robbery suspect ended in an arrest Tuesday night in Jackson County.
Banks County Sheriff Carlton Speed said his officers investigated an armed robbery, aggravated assault, and theft by taking incident involving Danny Joe Fowler, 53, of Colbert.
Speed said the alleged aggravated assault occurred “when he held a straight razor to the throat of another with the intent to rob him of money. Ultimately he took a .308 caliber rifle and vehicle from the residence without the permission of the owner and fled to Jackson County.”
When Fowler was spotted by Jackson County deputies around 5 p.m., he abandoned the vehicle and fled into the woods off South Apple Valley Road near Jefferson.
Officers from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Banks County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol, Georgia Department of Corrections, and other agencies worked together to apprehend and arrest Fowler at 6:15 p.m. He was taken to the Jackson County Detention Center.
“He’s got charges in Jackson County,” Speed said. “Then when he comes back here to Banks County he’s going to have armed robbery, aggravated assault, and theft by taking charges.”
Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum said Fowler faces two counts of felony obstruction, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, reckless driving, passing within 200 feet of oncoming traffic, no tag, failure to stop at a stop sign, passing in a no-passing zone, driving on the wrong side of the road, driving with suspended license, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, failure to maintain lane, and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana in that county.
Fowler, whose town of residence on the booking report shows Homer, has aliases of Ronald Glenn Jones and Wendell David Hix.
Speed said the victim in Tuesday’s incident was not hurt.
