Online tool makes outage reports easier

OAKWOOD - A new online tool will allow Jackson EMC members to report power outages via smart phone , tablet or any other device with internet access.
The new web form, accessible from the Jackson EMC website or at m.jacksonemc.com, lets members report power outages without having to log in to their accounts.
"Go to the website, and basically just answer the questions there," said Jackson EMC representative Mark Owen.
The form is formatted so that members can use a number of different criteria to prove their status as a member of the corporation and verify that power is, indeed, out in the area.
"You can enter a phone number, you can enter parts of your address, your account number if you have that handy, meter number - any of those things will identify you as a Jackson EMC customer and allow you to report the outage," Owen said.
The form sends the outage information directly into Jackson EMC's electronic management system, at which point the company can track outages and contact people via phone when power has been restored in the area, Owen said.
The corporation's goal is for customers to have as many options as possible when reporting issues, including the standard methods such as the automated phone system or via a member's account.
"In some cases it can be quicker," Owen said. "Depending on call volume, hold times, busy signals, and those kinds of things that can come up in the event of a big outage."
For those members of Jackson EMC, the web form is up and completely functional for any outages that may occur.
