GHA named 'High Performer' by HUD
GAINESVILLE – The Gainesville Housing Authority (GHA) has been named a “High Performer” agency for FYE 2012 by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
The annual HUD rating, issued Feb. 15, grades public housing authorities based on the categories of Physical, Financial, Management and Capital Fund. The GHA received the maximum score in the Financial, Management and Capital Fund categories and scored 93 of 100 possible points overall.
“Obviously we’re pleased to be named a High Performer, especially considering that most of our properties are 60-plus years old, and that our federal funding was cut by 71 percent the same year. I think it shows true professionalism on the part of our staff,” said Judith Escamilla, GHA Executive Director.
The GHA manages almost 500 housing units in Gainesville and served 627 Very Low Income families during the period cited. Founded in 1949, the GHA is home to almost 1,600 individual residents and the agency fosters many community partnerships to offer residents ongoing classes, workshops and other personal improvement options geared toward financial independence.
