ATLANTA (AP) -- Forecasters say a mixture of sleet and snow is expected to make travel treacherous in parts of the north Georgia mountains.

A winter weather advisory covered Rabun County in the northeast part of the state on Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service said snow could combine with rain and sleet in that area of the state before precipitation ends by mid-morning.

The weather service said 1 to 5 inches of snow could accumulate at elevations above 3,500 feet in far northeast Georgia.

The Georgia Department of Transportation's Teri Pope said crews are currently working to keep roads clear of snow in Rabun, Towns, Union and White counties. she said until temperatures warm into the 40s later in the day, icy patches can form on bridges and roads in higher elevations.

Two school systems in northeast Georgia were delaying their opening Tuesday by two hours because of the weather. (See separate posting.)
