Medical center honoring Valentine's Day with carnations
GAINESVILLE - In the spirit of Valentine's Day, Northeast Georgia Medical Center will be giving out red carnations to visitors of both the Gainesville campus and Medical Plaza 1 in Braselton beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday morning.
Julie Holland, representative for Northeast Georgia Medical Center, noted that volunteers are behind the program and will be the ones giving out the flowers to visitors throughout the day.
"The volunteer that drives the shuttle will be the one giving them out here at the Gainesville campus," Holland said.
"At Medical Plaza 1 in Braselton, there's a volunteer inside the lobby there that will be giving them out."
The volunteers began giving away the carnations a few years ago as something positive for those who may be visiting sick loved ones reasons on a day that is supposed to be a celebration of love.
"I think we've done this maybe two or three years now," Holland said. "It's just a little something extra for our guests and visitors on Valentine's Day.
"It's a red carnation, you know, hopefully it will just bring a smile to their face."
The shuttle drivers in Gainesville and other volunteers in Braselton will be handing out the red carnations all day until they run out of flowers.
