Additional details are being released about a triple shooting that occurred in Gilmer County around 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

About 9:30 p.m. Gilmer County Sheriff Stacy Nicholson released a statement detailing the incident, which occurred at 573 Simmons Drive.

“Upon arrival, deputies found two white male subjects, Ricky Silvers and Ben Forrest, both with head injuries – gunshot wounds,” the statement reads. “Deputies also made contact with a third white male, Dennis Gravely. Statements indicated that Michael Stafford had been the shooter and had fled the scene in a blue BMW with a female who lived with him at that residence. Information given was that the female was injured as well.”

Nicholson’s statement indicates the female was dropped off at North Georgia Medical Center by Stafford. She was admitted and treated for a gunshot wound.

Nicholson said deputies and police officers from Ellijay and East Ellijay, along with probation officers from the Georgia Department of Corrections and troopers from the Georgia State Patrol searched for several hours for Stafford as a person of interest.

“It appears that the two males who were shot – both of which were flown to Atlanta Medical Center – along with two other individuals, Dennis Gravely and Lloyd Silvers, went to Stafford’s residence to ‘collect a debt,’ all armed with guns,” Nicholson’s statement reads. “Gunfire was exchanged between both parties and during this incident three people were shot.”

Nicholson said his office continues to seek Stafford as a witness in the shooting, and said warrants are being applied for on Dennis Gravely, Lloyd Silvers, Ricky Silvers, and Ben Forrest for aggravated assault.

Nicholson said he wants to clear up misinformation that has circulated following the incident:

• The shooting did not occur at North Georgia Medical Center.

• As of the time of the statement, all parties involved are still alive.

• Officers do not believe Michael Stafford is armed at this time.
