Boys basketball: Elephants close out regular season with win over Cedar Shoals

GAINESVILLE -- The Gainesville boys closed out their regular season as perhaps the hottest team in Region 8-AAAAA after holding off Cedar Shoals 72-66 Saturday at the Gainesville gym.

The Red Elephants (16-9, 10-6 Region 8-AAAAA) ended the regular season with eight straight wins. They are off until Wednesday when they will play Apalachee in the first round of region 8-AAAAA tournament.

Shaquan Cantrell had monster game in final home game with 37 points and eight rebounds. Deshuan Watson, who was coming off a 29-point performance in Friday's win over Salem, added 18 points for Gainesville.

Dontai Robinson had 28 points to lead Cedar Shoals.
