UNDATED - The Georgia Department of Transportation has been busy in north Georgia this week with funding awards in Forsyth County and a new traffic signal in Barrow County.

The funding comes through the Local Maintenance and Improvements Grant program.

State officials Thursday presented Forsyth County with a check for $1.4 million. The county is expected to use the money for resurfacing work.

The city of Cumming got nearly $48,000. Officials planned to use that money for pothole repairs.

In other north Georgia DOT moves, the city of Bethlehem got a new traffic signal in the test mode at State Route 11 and Star Street. It went into flash mode Thursday and is expected to go fully operation next Thursday.

DOT described the project as an operational improvement. Crews widened the center turn lane on 11 and added right turn lanes and left turn lanes onto Star Street.
