CLARKESVILLE – The person found dead at a vacant mobile home in the Batesville community Wednesday afternoon has been identified.
Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire said Michael Anthony Hunnicutt, 43, of a Toccoa address in Habersham County, is the man whose death currently is under investigation by the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and the GBI.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time,” McEntire said.
Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell has said foul play is suspected, and that investigators are interviewing people regarding the death.
Terrell said Hunnicutt's body was found at the vacant trailer on Georgia Highway 356 just off Georgia Highway 197 around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Hunnicutt had been shot twice in the head, Terrell said, adding investigators don't believe it was a stranger-to-stranger crime.
"The landowner’s grandson noticed a piece of the underpinning on the trailer was sticking out and went to check," Terrell said, noting the residence had been empty for a couple of months.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Habersham County Sheriff's Office at (706) 754-6666, ext. 0 and ask to speak to an investigator regarding the Hunnicutt case.
