GAINESVILLE - As a part of the Gainesville Transportation Study, the Gainesville-Hall Metropolitan Planning Organization (GHMPO) and the city of Gainesville are recruiting Gainesville citizens and/or Gainesville business owners to serve on a Transportation Focus Group.
Those selected will take part in a series of four meetings/work sessions to develop ideas for the betterment of transportation in the city. The ideas will be shared with Transportation Policy members for possible inclusion in the Gainesville's ongoing Transportation Study.
City officials say the Transportation Focus Group will be a 10-person panel with two members chosen from each city council ward. This will provide a group of citizen and business owners that remains consistent throughout the study to provide important input and comment on study findings and recommendations. Participants should be willing to participate in the four meetings and be ready to share ideas with a group of diverse interests. The tentative dates for those meetings are:
February 28, 2013
March 21, 2013
May 2, 2013
June 20, 2013
The meetings will be held from 2:00-4:00 at Fair Street Neighborhood Center. To be considered for membership, applicants must either be a resident or business owner in Gainesville and complete an application and return it by February 18, 2013.
Gainesville Traffic Engineer Dee Taylor said that others who live outside of the city of Gainesville, but who have concerns about transportation issues in the city, will have a chance to voice their opinions at upcoming community meetings that will be scheduled through the summer.
