Teen incarcerated after caught burglarizing store

ELBERTON – Early Monday morning, Elbert County deputies interrupted a burglary in progress at Destiny Store Citgo in Bowman.
According to information from the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, when deputies arrived, they observed a white male inside the store. When he saw the deputy, the male ran to the back of the store.
The teen was ordered to come out with his hands up, but failed to comply. When other deputies arrived, they entered the store and secured the premises, locating the suspect in the cooler.
Sheriff’s officials said the male was 16-years-old. The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice was contacted and the teen was taken to the Regional Youth Detention Center in Gainesville.
The sheriff’s office completed a juvenile complaint form for second-degree commercial burglary (felony), second-degree criminal damage to property (felony), theft by taking motor vehicle (felony), and obstruction of officers (misdemeanor).
