YOUNG HARRIS - The Towns County Sheriff's Office says roads in Towns County are "treacherous" and travel is "all but impossible."

Spokesman Jeff Edge says people should "stay home and do not drive."

Edge added "if you have an emergency, contact 911 and we will get someone to you as soon as possible. Every road is icy (and) there have already been multiple wrecks all over the county, on side roads, on main highways, in low spots and high spots."

Edge said the ice is "especially dangerous because it looks just like wet pavement from rain, until you hit it." He says many roads are already closed, many have vehicles blocking them and wreckers cannot get to many of the vehicles to move them.

"We advise citizens to stay at home and not to drive. Four-wheel drive is not helpful in this situation. We have four-wheel drive vehicles involved in wrecks already. Also, walking is treacherous as well."
