WRENS, Ga. (AP) -- An eastern Georgia plant that manufactures janitorial and sanitation products has announced it will be closing in 60 days, leaving about 120 people jobless.
The Glit/Microtron plant in Wrens - about 30 miles southwest of Augusta - made the announcement Thursday morning. The company is a subsidiary of Missouri-based Continental Commercial Products, which produces cleaning, janitorial and contracting supplies.
Bryan Brown, director of manufacturing, says economic problems factored into the decision to close the plant, which moved to Wrens in 1978. The plant primarily produces materials used for floor care and maintenance.
Meanwhile, the nearby PyraMax Ceramics is nearing completion of a manufacturing plant, and will look to make about 50 hires over the next three months.
