Boys basketball: North Hall survives Vikings charge in overtime
RABBITTOWN -- On paper, North Hall and East Hall may not have looked like a dead-even match-up.
But in a region rivalry game between two teams as capable as the Trojans and Vikings, paper means absolutely nothing.
East Hall showed as much on Tuesday, pushing the Trojans to the brink before North Hall salvaged overtime where it went on to claim an 88-83 victory in Rabbittown.
The Vikings surged ahead in the third quarter, pushing a 36-35 halftime lead to a 16-point advantage that held at 10 points until the final minutes of regulation.
North Hall (17-2, 8-1 Region 7-AAA) surged back to force the extra frame thanks to an offensive surge led by Adam Kelly, who put up a game-high 31 points. Ebo Smith also tallied 19 points, while Avery Cagle added 16. Griffin Olson also chipped in with 15 points.
East Hall (7-11, 4-5) was led by 19 points from Brian Edwards.
The Vikings will travel to Dawson County on Friday, looking to bounce back against a Tigers team they also pushed to the brink in an eventual 51-43 defeat in Rabbittown on Jan. 4.
North Hall, meanwhile, will travel to face White County on Friday, looking to stay within a game of 7-AAA leader Buford.
