Club gears up for Polar Bear Swim

GAINESVILLE - While the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club is known for competing on the water, a new year's tradition at the club has people going in the water once again.
The club's annual Polar Bear Swim kicks off New Year's day at 2:00 p.m. The $25 fee entitles you to a jump in the lake, a long-sleeve t-shirt, chili and desert and a dip in a Georgia Spa Company hot tub for a warm up.
"We always have a costume contest, that we have a fun award for. We have a best jump, where usually we're getting some of the teenagers doing flips and stuff to win that, and then a biggest splash competition," event organizer Chris Potter said.
Potter said all proceeds benefit the club.
As far as the actual jump, Potter said there really aren't any tips.
"Get ready, because it's surprisingly cold, but it's definitely a lot of fun, and it's for a good cause for sure."
You can register around 1:15 p.m. the day of the event. It's at the venue on Clarks Bridge Road in Hall County.
