Lanierland: West Hall, GHS girls get consolation wins

MURRAYVILLE -- West Hall led from start to finish in taking a 60-27 win over Johnson Friday in the consolation round of the girls bracket of the Lanierland Tournament at North Hall High.
The Lady Spartans (6-4) held Johnson to single-digit scoring in every quarter. They opened with a 14-5 first quarter and took a 28-13 lead into halftime.
West Hall blew the game open with a 16-8 third quarter and outscored Johnson 16-6 in the fourth quarter.
Kaelyn Gattis paced the Lady Spartans with 10 points. Maia Booker and Kaycee Teffs each scored eight for West Hall.
Johnson was led by Sarah Williams with a game-high 13 points.
West Hall next will take on Gainesville at noon at North Hall in the fifth-place game. Johnson will play Lakeview Academy at 9 a.m. in the seventh-place game.

The Lady Elephants used an 18-5 fourth quarter to pull away for the win in the consolation round of the Lanierland Tournament.
Gainesville (3-4) led just 9-7 after the first quarter but extended its lead to 20-13 by halftime. The Lady Elephants opened the second half with an 8-2 run and then blew the game open a with a 13-0 run to start the fourth quarter.
Kayla Kelly led Gainesville with 14 points. Shikiya Brown added 10 points and Ana Walker seven for the Lady Elephants.
Lakeview Academy (4-6) was led by Taylor Handte with nine points. It was the fifth straight loss for the Lady Lions.
Gainesville next will take on West Hall at noon at North Hall in the fifth-place game. Lakeview will play Johnson at 9 a.m. in the seventh-place game.
