Hartwell development one step closer to reality

HARTWELL - A major resort planned for Lake Hartwell is taking the final steps in the approval process.

The proposal, which calls for a hotel, lodge, golf course and marina at a site off I-85, went before the South Carolina Budget and Control board Wednesday for a preliminary review.

A vote on the matter will not occur until the board's next meeting in mid-January.

If the proposal is approved, Sanctuary Pointe LLC, the company behind the development, must still reach agreements with the other marinas around the lake and get the go-ahead from the U.S. Corps of Engineers before construction can begin.
