Trojans' title dream ends at hands of St. Pius

Senior TJ Tate had 114 yards rushing in his final game for the Trojans Friday night. North Hall lost to St. Pius 31-6 in the Class AAA semifinals.
ATLANTA Ė North Hallís run to a berth in the Class AAA finals at the Georgia Dome came to a screeching half against St. Pius Friday night.

The Trojans were held to more than 150 yards below their season rushing average and never led in a 31-6 loss to the Lions in the semifinals.

Big plays proved to be the difference. The Lions had three scoring plays of 34 yards or more and scored the final 24 points of the game.

St. Pius (12-2) next week will take on another Region 7-AAA team, Buford, for the state title.

The game was close in the first half as North Hall (11-3) trailed just 7-6 after Brad Brown connected with Lee Shelton on a 6-yard TD pass early in the second quarter. Thatís as close as the Trojans would get.

The Lionsí Ryan Braswell would score a pair of touchdowns, in the second quarter and another in the third, to give St. Pius a 21-6 lead. St. Pius quarterback Jack Spear would run for one TD on a 54-yard scramble in the first quarter and then toss one TD pass to J.P. Graves late in the third quarter to push the lead to 28-6 heading into the fourth quarter.

TJ Tate had a solid game for North Hall with 114 yards rushing on 23 carries. But the Lions clamped down on Kevin Christmas, holding the senior to just 27 yards in his final game.

North Hall finished with 267 total yards while St. Pius had 279 yards for the game.
