CLEVELAND – The Area 2 Special Olympics Winter Games continue at Yonah Bowl and Skate in Cleveland on Friday.

The two-day event kicked off Thursday with athletes from elementary and middle schools in White, Hall, Stephens, Lumpkin and Dawson counties, as well as Connect Lumpkin.

At 10 a.m. Friday, athletes from high school and the Master’s Division from those counties will compete.

“It’s been a great day,” said Joan Curtis, chair of the White County Special Olympics Management Team, at the conclusion of Thursday’s events.

“The bowlers have had a lot of fun,” she said. “This has been a tradition for – we’ve been here for about 10 years, and it’s been very successful. We’re proud of all the athletes. They do a fantastic job.”
