MT. AIRY – The driver of a 2010 Ford Focus that went out of control and overturned on Georgia Highway 17 (Toccoa Highway) near Mt. Airy at 7:33 Tuesday night has been charged.
A Georgia State Patrol spokesperson said Thursday that Jacy Lee Campo, 39, of Demorest was charged by troopers with failure to maintain lane and driving under the influence.
Campo’s vehicle was traveling north on Georgia 17, left the road on the right side and struck a ditch with its front end, the GSP report shows. The car then became airborne and struck a mailbox, landed and began to overturn. While overturning, the Ford struck a phone box and a utility pole, coming to rest facing east against the pole.
Campo, who suffered unspecified injuries, was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville when a medical helicopter couldn't arrive quickly at the wreck scene.
