North Ga. softball signs five to 2013 class, including Union, Fannin players

DAHLONEGA -– North Georgia College & State University head softball coach Mike Davenport has added five student-athletes during the recent early signing period for his 2013 class. All five are in-state players and include Allie Brown (Etowah HS), Jessica Finch (Allatoona HS), Candace German (Fannin County HS), Hanna Hughes (Union County HS) and Tori Prince (North Gwinnett HS).

“We are very excited about the 2013 class we were able to bring into our program during the early signing period,” Davenport said. “Each one of these young ladies will be a tremendous asset to the North Georgia Softball program as well as an asset to our university as student-athletes. We look forward to the opportunity to coach this class and are excited about the impact they will have on our program.”

Allie Brown, OF – Woodstock, GA (Etowah High School)
Travel Club – Atlanta Vipers Prance

Brown is a four-year varsity starter and boasts above a .350 batting average for her career at Etowah High School under the guidance of Tori Brown and Tonya Sebring. The incoming outfielder has been an All-County First Team member of the Cherokee Tribune and Lakeside Ledger during each year of her high school career as well as an All-Region 5A First Team and Georgia High School Association (GHSA) All-State Honorable Mention two years.

During her junior year, she was named the Etowah Offensive Player of the Year and in her senior year she was named the Etowah Defensive player of the Year while finishing her senior season with a .396 batting average and a flawless 1.000% fielding percentage. Her senior season, Brown was named to the Georgia Dugout Club All-Star Team.

She plays her travel ball with the Atlanta Vipers Organization under coaches Ed Prance and Wade Blackwell where she received the “Stephanie Phillips ‘Commitment to Excellence’ Award” in 2009.

Jessica Finch, C/3B – Acworth, GA (Allatoona High School)
Travel Club – Atlanta Vipers Giles

Finch is finishing up her high school career as a member of the GHSA All-State Team helping lead the Buccaneers of Allatoona High School to a GHSA “Elite Eight” finish. Playing for coach Troy Pirkle, the incoming catcher/third baseman hit .372 during her high school career and finished with 13 career homeruns. During her junior and senior seasons she was a member of the Georgia Dugout Club All-Stars games.

Academically, Finch has made the Honor Roll with a 3.92 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society.

She plays her travel ball for coach Greg Giles and the Atlanta Vipers. In 2010 her team finished seventh at the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Nationals and in 2011 helped the Vipers finish second out of 172 teams at ASA Nationals.

Candace German, OF – Blue Ridge, GA (Fannin County High School)
Travel Club – Carolina Elite Genevose

German played her high school ball at Fannin County High School in Blue Ridge, Ga. where she played for coach David Dyer. As a four-year starter, she holds school records in career home runs (11), career batting average (.401), career on-base percentage (.472) and the program’s highest batting average in a single season (.505, sophomore season) and second highest batting average (.486, senior season).

She was a member of the GHSA All-State Team her sophomore and senior seasons while winning her programs Offensive MVP Award both of those years.

German plays her travel ball under the guidance of Tony Genovese with the Carolina Elite. She has participated in the ASA Nationals from 2007 through the 2011 season and competed at the Premier National Tournament in 2012 where her team finished ninth in the nation.

Hannah Hughes, 1B – Blairsville, GA (Union County High School)
Travel Club – Georgia Combat

Hughes prepped at Union County High School in Blairsville, Ga. where she played for Coach Jessica Stewart. As a first baseman, she completed her high school career as a member of the All-Region First Team and the All-State Second Team during her junior year. She followed that up by being named to the All-Region First Team and was the Region 8AA Player of the Year as a senior.

Away from softball, she has been a member of the BETA Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Senior Superlative, and CNA.

Hughes plays her travel ball with the Georgia Combat under the guidance of Mike Fuller.

Tori Prince,OF – Suwanee, GA (North Gwinnett High School)
Travel Club – Georgia Elite

Prince has played her high school all at North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Ga. where she played for Coach Randy Black. The incoming outfielder was a member of the 2011 All-Gwinnett County Team while hitting .444.

Academically, she has been the head of the Leadership Program, a member of the Key Club, an Honor Roll member and a member of the Environment Club.

She plays her travel ball with the Georgia Elite 18-Gold under Coach Jeff Caldwell.
