100% national certification pass rate for NGTC medical assisting students

CLARKESVILLE - North Georgia Technical College's (NGTC) 2011 Medical Assisting students achieved a 100% national certification pass rate.

The credential represents a medical assistant who has been certified by the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).

“There were 33 students who were eligible to take the exam in 2011 from the Clarkesville Campus, and each one passed,” said Medical Assisting Instructor Debra Downs. “All students were first time takers and their success rate placed NGTC in the 92 percentile ranking.”

The test covers such areas as administrative and clinical procedures; anatomy and physiology; medical terminology; medicolegal guidelines and regulations; and laboratory procedures. Students who have successfully completed NGTC’s Medical Assisting program of study are eligible to sit for this national certification exam.

“This is outstanding, and we all know it doesn’t just happen,” said NGTC President Dr. Gail Thaxton. “It is the result of a lot of hard work, strong faculty, and great students. We are very proud of their success.”

Those who hold the credential are required to re-certify every 60 months to better ensure current competency and knowledge and thus better protect
